Fuchi, first launch of Word 97 can take as long as 7 secs on a PII/300. To get up to 7 secs, you need to have a few major apps running when launching Word (like Norton AV, Explorer 4.0, Paperport scanner software, etc.) To really slow things down, it helps to have more than 30,000 files on your HD (as I do). With this load, the M2 turns to sludge as well.

Benchmarks only serve as a comparison and should not be taken out of context. If you really want a fair contest, run your own tests and then come over to my house and plug the same drive into my PC. Otherwise, it's apples vs oranges.

In a fair test, a PII will customarily beat an M2 at the same task, with the same files, on the same hard drive, with the same amount of available RAM. I own both and I can say that the PII/300 is not "a whole lot faster" ... just "noticeably faster". Great for a power user ... a waste of money for most.
