Respond to of 13803 Don't want police brutality? Don't mess with the law. I have never been arrested in any country and I lived and worked in dodgy places. Most my encounters with the law was an African cop trying to get a bribe from me. In Brazil even during the military regime my ONLY encounter with the law, was a pre-carnival check That means I would be arrested just for being without my ID. I was reading a newspaper in the square near the railway station. A cop approached and asked: "I want to see your papers, please." and these were not friendly or nice cops. "I'm never been asked for my papers and this is not not a good time to ask for them sargent." "Really? Why that?" "I don't carry any paper with me as I am being hired by Philips and all my papers are with them. I am trying to sign before these long carnival holidays I will call them after lunch and if they are ready I rush there to sign." "OK. What do you do and what are you being hired for." (the cop was trying to see if I had a "cooked" tale for him.) "Oh, I am telecom technician. And Philips has a telecoms division, called Inbelsa which is based in Santo Amaro, although they are know for lamps business by the general public." "Here is their number and time to call, they wrote as a reminder for me." I showed the piece of paper. This hillbilly, reading the economy page of the conservative newspaper O Estado de Sao Paulo, is a normal person. He might have concluded. "Son, you can seat anywhere, but an advice, you stay here, cops will be disturbing you all the time because Operation Pre-carnival. Maybe you should go elsewhere because here is a dodgy area." "Well, it is about time to call Philips, so I was about to leave anyway" "Hey, good luck to you job" "Thanks" I went to call Philips and joined them after Carnival 1975. Most my encounters were highway patrol. Show papers. Got fined for overspeed. Why should I be afraid of a policeman if I am blameless ?
