News: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Tuesday January 27, 9:06 pm Eastern Time Company Press Release Centura Software Wins Contract to Supply Secure Databases to Major German Bank REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 1998--Centura Software Corporation (NASDAQ:CNTR - news), today announced that it has signed a strategic agreement with a major German bank to provide a fully encrypted database for secure applications. Under the agreement, Centura will integrate security features into SQLBase 7.5 that meet the stringent security requirements needed to electronically transfer funds between bank accounts. The bank's application is a multi-user, multi-bank and multi-account electronic banking and cash management solution designed for the desktops of thousands of its business customers. It was developed using Centura application development tools and is deployed with SQLBase. The application will be used in locations outside the control of its standard secured environment. Because of the strategic importance of these systems and the value of the transactions executed within them, a high level of security was essential. Centura will be adding additional unprecedented levels of security into SQLBase 7.5, the next generation of its embedded RDBMS. Data will be encrypted to the highest standards available both within the database, and on the network. The database software will be used in conjunction with application-specific authentication features, including hardware verification through digital signatures. This will allow end users to securely transfer cash from one bank account to another. ''The continued commitment of companies using SQLBase demonstrates its ability to provide the performance and features needed for an embedded database server,'' said Scott Broomfield, CEO of Centura. ''With these new security features, Centura will be the first database vendor to offer a product that can host highly secure banking applications. The new level of security will position SQLBase as the embedded database of choice for other types of applications requiring secure transactions, such as EDI.'' ''We're extremely happy that this bank chose us as their partner in developing a secure database transaction system,'' said Lionel Carrasco, VP of Business Development at Centura. ''What we're most excited about is their intent to resell the application to other banks in Europe, and establish it as the standard in Europe for electronic banking. The application is believed to be the only electronic banking product that conforms with the new Euro currency standard.''
