Samson / Emerging Senior Producers

Sorry for the late response. Just getting back on my feet after a bout with the flu.

Of the Integrated Oil's, I favor (1) Petro-Canada (PCA). Everyone is focused on Hibernia & Terra Nova which will serve the company well. Company is also involved in Syncrude Canada and heavy oil. (Not crazy over heavy oil) However, another great feature of their operations is natural gas production. Not many people realize the company is one of the premier gas producers in the country. Both upstream and downstream operations are quite positive over the short and longer term. The company's future is quite promising.

My favorite Senior Oil's at this time is (in sequence) Talisman Energy, and Canadian Occidental Petroleum. I consider these two companies as the emerging leaders among their peers.

There is one common denominator for the companies mentioned thus far. All have international operations as well as a strong foothold domestically. It is my firm opinion that any real future growth among the Seniors will be realized via international efforts.

On the domestic front, I also like Alberta Energy, Crestar Energy, Poco Petroleums, Anderson Exploration and Tarragon Oil & Gas.

In my opinion, emerging companies among the Intermediate Oil's would include Berkley Petroleum, Paramount Resources Penn West Petroleum and Ulster Petroleums. The company to watch is Rio Alto Exploration. This is my natural gas favorite.
