News just hit. Notice Received on Ninth Patent Rentech Patent Ensures Maximum Conversion Efficiencies DENVER, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- RENTECH, INC. (Nasdaq: RNTK), the Denver-based holding company which developed and markets a proprietary and patented process for the conversion of low-value gases into valuable liquid hydrocarbons (Gas To Liquids--GTL) today announced it has been informed by the U.S. patent office that important (key) claims have been allowed on Rentech's ninth patent application. This most recent patent notification pertains to a method for implementing a second Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reactor in series for converting excess hydrogen and carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) produced in the first F-T reactor. This dual reactor concept is useful for Fischer-Tropsch reactors employing catalysts which have high water gas shift activity and less than optimum conversion in the initial reactor. This type of catalyst produces an excess of hydrogen and carbon dioxide which can be fed into the second reactor to achieve the higher conversion desired of natural gas to the valuable and clean-burning liquid hydrocarbons the process produces. The significance of the patent is that it ensures maximum carbon conversion efficiencies and a reduction of green house gases. "Under certain operating conditions in the GTL process maximum conversion of gas to liquids may not be able to be achieved based on factors the operator must adjust to. This patent allows for conversion under these varying conditions providing economic yields where in the past these yields were not achievable. Rentech continues to work diligently on the improvement of its proprietary and patented gas to liquids technology to remain one of the leaders in this significant and growing industry," stated Dennis L. Yakobson, President and CEO of Rentech.
