are you applying the term "semantics" to the questions you highlighted? if so, please explain the use of the term... because your usage is unclear to me.

those questions are simple, straight-forward references to employment and your concerns about performance. do you consider rumors and personal opinion to be the best indicators of performance? do objective measures/outcomes play a role in your determination of performance?

i do agree that fairness is central to your concern about employee performance. so, how do you assure fairness in a situation where an employer has unfettered authority/control of employee termination? do you think employers should be able to hire and fire on a whim? and if you think that, instead of a whim, the decision should be fair and based on clear performance expectations, what do you suggest an employee do when an employer terminates by disregarding performance expectations?

you state concerns about employees not working hard enough because unions protect them... and then you mention how home depo workers don't work hard but don't have a union. so, this indicates that unions are not the problem, since, in your opinion, non-union workers are slackers, as well.

the worker protections you mention... well, what are you talking about? 40 hour work week-- restricted per gig economy. lunch break-- restricted per gig economy. work break every 2 hours-- restricted per gig economy. safe working conditions... um, health care workers currently dying in part due to lack of a safe work environment. so, what are you talking about? these 'protections' have been seriously restricted since the 80s in the u.s.. and the gig economy has simply increased the demolition of workers rights. maybe workers still have some protection in canada.

um, 'work to rule' is a union strategy... an intentional slow down in order to pressure management, generally during contract negotiations. so, of course folks don't work hard at those times. geez....

since reagan, u.s. unions have been weak. but somehow, like magic, at the same time they are also incredibly strong and protect all workers from everything...?
reminds me of a gaslight or a strawman or maybe just confirmation bias.
