"I agree with you about the integration. I think the OS should be a small, highly efficient, stable peice of code that controlls the hardware for the software, and THAT IS ALL. I don't even like the GUI in the OS. It doesn't belong there. I don't want a bucket full of crap sold to me as a bundle for more than what its worth. I can buy the peices myself, from who ever makes the best and install them myself."

So, you want to buy an OS with only sheduler and memory management for $10, OK, then you want to spend $10 for each piece of the following software:

1) a GUI interface
2) a network softare, you might have to spend more money for tcp/ip, for remote dial up and etc.
3) a disk management software to compress you hd or fix bad sectors
4) an internet brower
5) mutimedia players
6) file find utility
7) different fonts
...

You will be really luck to have all the stuff installed and still able to run. How would an average user understand this?

Too true! The problem is that most of the users that I come in contact with haven't a clue as to how to use a 'Command Line'. I'm not sure that they would be able to remember what the extension is for a list! GREP is totally foreign!

Just out of curiosity, have you been able to get the DirecPC (400K satellite dish) to work w/your system?
