Upgrading your battery is also a good option
Which reminds me...I plan to take my old 2011 iMac into the shop to get an SSD put in it. That should speed things up quite a bit.

I'd also like to get the PRAM battery replaced to avoid any startup problems.

I know fewer Mac settings are stored in PRAM these days, but I believe it still make sense to keep the battery in usable condition.
