we are all now totally screwed unless an effective vaccine or a miraculous therapy shows up
.
I think that a valid 5 minute saliva or yes/no breathalyzer test would open things up again while we wait for a therapy or cure; or a vaccine. There are many promising trials - not as difficult as testing vaccines for safety and effectiveness.

As with all shit of human history, some good comes. We are better prepared for the next epidemic. We have seen the best case for single-payer health care. Because having people go without care hurts us all.

The $$ costs have been pushed ahead and will bite our economy and the middle classes much worse eventually. Probably after the election if Trump and Mitch don't lose short term "control" buying corporate debt and flooding capital.

I'm not that bleak but can certainly appreciate the sentiment. This latest screw up certainly increases the strength of the bleak argument. No question. And I don't expect a widely available, reasonably effective vaccine until early next year at the very soonest.
