Megs, What about Tiawan? I've heard that they don't have the financial problems that korea has, and also they are increasing Dram production. Kathleen

Can we fabricate 256 million memory cells on one die?" Probably not using a .30 um process (at least not profitably). The interface design does add cost when it comes to testing these chips. True. But I've seen no evidence to indicate the Asians are behind in this area. For instance, I beleive that LG Semicon spent $2 Billion on capital equipment last year. Some of that must have gone for testers, eh ;>) A final goodie from the 10-Q: "The Company's ramp of its SDRAM products reached approximately 55% of DRAM wafer starts at the end of the first quarter of 1998." That was up from 50% the end of the prior quarter. Just to correct the 70% figure I've seen posted here in the past.
