Washed their hands in it?? Lord!

I recall sacking seed grain with mercury dust added to it. They told us to wear masks. Being a tough guy (and a teenage idiot!) I refused. Red mercury fulminate dust floated up around us as we sacked seed off the hoppers.

I remember ddt when I was a kid. We used to stand behind the spreaders in this white cloud of ddt dust when we were refilling them. It got banned. The farmers got pissed and bought up an illegal stash they continued to use for a few years till it ran out.

Then we sprayed something called parathion. Pa screwed up one day and while loading the big sprayer a wind gust pushed a cloud of it over our garden. Wiped out about a third of the garden. We had a large family and the garden was important. My mom was mad all summer about that. That's when it dawned on me this stuff was maybe not so good for people or planet earth.

Happy to be alive and well after looking back!

Exactly!!! We should be prudent and be cautious of all new technology until we understand it... it only makes good sense...
