So many wines overrated. For our 40th wedding anniversary (2 years ago) I bought a bottle of Rombauer wine that sells for $68.00. Sooooo underwhelmed (would never buy a bottle of Rombsauer EVER again). The next night we had a $13.00 bottle we liked MUCH better.

About 25 years ago a friend of mine, who is now and Orthodox priest, taught me to make wine. I did it for a few years but lacked the discipline and passion to continue (but was fun for the time). Said friend taught me a LOT about wine.

Said friend scouts Trader Joe's and other places for good wines. When he finds one he really likes he buys 4 or 5 cases and recently encouraged me to do the same. Problem is he lives in Montana and has has cinder block basement for storage. Where I'm at I would need a cellar, which i don't have. Also, he knows by color, body, acidity, etc .... just how many years it will take for the wines he buys to reach peak goodness. I cant do the same, just not that knowledgeable. (He majored in ag management and I think he minored in enology).

As you know - many of the best wines in the world are produced here in California.
