ISSI Licenses Flash Technology to Japan's AKM

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Integrated Silicon Solution, Inc. (Nasdaq: ISSI -
news) today announced that it has agreed to license certain Flash patents and intellectual
property to Asahi Kasei Microsystems Co., Ltd. (AKM) of Japan. The agreement allows AKM to
embed certain ISSI Flash memory blocks into AKM products. In addition, AKM and ISSI will
jointly develop and market certain products utilizing technology from both companies. The
parties did not comment on the total value of the deal.

''This agreement is part of our previously announced intellectual property licensing strategy,
which includes our recent acquisition of Nexcom,'' said Jimmy Lee, ISSI's president and CEO.
''We are already realizing benefits from this strategic acquisition.''

Central to the licensing program are several fundamental Flash patents covering FN Tunneling
Flash cells (NexFlash). This technology has the benefit of very low power, low voltage and
small memory sectors. The company is actively developing its intellectual property business,
which includes issuing licenses and entering into strategic relationships for developing and
marketing low power, low voltage Flash products. ISSI has previously announced that it has
entered into Flash licensing agreements with Rockwell Semiconductor and Chartered
Semiconductor.

''We are excited about this agreement with AKM,'' Mr. Lee said. ''AKM has a strong presence in
the mixed signal and telecommunications market and we look forward to working with them and
expanding our relationship.''

''We are very pleased to consummate the agreement with ISSI,'' said Akira Yomiyama, chairman
and CEO of AKM. ''We recognize ISSI's strong leadership in memory technologies and look forward
to working with them. We are particularly excited about the present license to embed the
NexFlash memory technology in our products. We feel this is key to our future strategy.''

AKM is a leading mixed-signal LSI company with expertise in high quality and low power
solutions. The product line includes full custom LSIs and ASSPs for mobile communications and
networks, and data conversions for high quality multimedia or PC products. AKM is wholly-owned
by Asahi Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese chemical company with sales of over
$10 billion.

ISSI designs, develops and markets high performance SRAM, DRAM, FLASH, EPROM and EEPROM memory
devices as well as embedded memory devices, including DSP support products, microcontrollers
and voice products. The company also licenses certain of its patents and intellectual property.
ISSI's products are used in telecommunications, data communications, networking systems,
personal computers, instrumentation and consumer products.

This news release contains forward-looking statements that are subject to risks and
uncertainties that could cause volatility in the company's business, operating results or
financial condition. Actual results may differ from current expectations due to development
delays in design or process technology, poor manufacturing yields, lower than expected product
sales by the licensees, changes in industry conditions, changes in average selling prices for
the company's products, technology and intellectual property, imbalances between supply and
demand for the company's products, the level of market acceptance of the company's products,
competition, the cancellation, modification or delay of orders from customers, the ability of
the company to successfully integrate Nexcom's operations and retain key Nexcom employees or
other factors. Further information that could affect the company's results is detailed in
ISSI's periodic filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including its Annual
Report on Form 10K for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 1997.
