California's hospitalizations jump by 40% California's number of coronavirus hospitalizations reached a new high on Friday, jumping 40% in two weeks, to 6,171 patients. The number of people in ICUs increased by 28% in the last two weeks. California reported 140 additional deaths on Friday, bringing the state's death toll to 6,851.
