UBS was the one that cited bad stent news when they lowered earnings estimates in part due to " a sharp decline in stent sales." Did you ever get ahold of anybody at the company?

No. But wouldn't be surprised as there are probably dozens of stent manufacturers world wide. Like any other medical device one company is always leapfrogging another. However, execution of product sales strategy is the key to success in this business. Medtronic is good at that. If they don't have the best technology, they'll buy it, or something close to it. Then they turn to their powerful sales force to take care of the rest.
