According to the Fibre Channel Thread: VLSI and VTSS. QLGC is involved but I think LSI makes at least some of their chips (don't quote me on this). I recall from an article a long time ago that their is a big consortium involved without the proverbial motherload of companies involved. Brocade was instrumental here (I think)...

After a bit of searching, Eureka! Check this out:

I think this is what I was referring to. As you can see there are a bunch of companies involved. Note there isn't FibreChannel-DIVX or FibreChannel-Fujitsu-Version or FibreChannel-Sony-Version. There's just one as far as I can tell. A damn good thing for all involved.

Looking at the above list you can see that besides the 2 Vs I don't see any other big players in the IC area (maybe IBM). From what I know of VLSI it is not a huge deal there or rather they are not emphasizing it.

So LSI should do well being one of the few near the very bottom of the food chain. All roads lead not to Rome but to LSI.
