Wharfie, people who think schools should be reopened just because kids won't die due to COVID-19 are forgetting one important thing.

The kids won't die, but the parents could.

I still remember this one Latino family of seven in San Jose. Poor dad passed away at the age of 47 due to COVID-19. Now the sole breadwinner is the mom. Their kids are too young to get part-time jobs.

Poor families like this are the ones who need schools to reopen ASAP, given how public schools are virtual daycare centers. But they are also most vulnerable once their children become COVID-19 carriers.

With the resurgence in full swing, I don't see the wisdom in reopening schools come fall.
