Clarabel Ventura, 26, was ordered held on $2,500 cash bail after prosecutors said she locked her injured son, Ernesto Lara, in a rear bedroom for about two weeks without treatment. ADVERTISEMENT Shocked police found him Saturday night in the bedroom, lying on a mattress soaked with his own blood and human waste. 'To burn a child to this extent and then lock them in a room without care for two or three weeks -- it's beyond comprehension,' said police Sgt. David Aldrich. One officer called it the 'worst case of child abuse' he had ever seen in 24 years on the job. Aldrich said investigating officers 'were pretty shook up.' The single mother claimed the boy accidentally burned himself while washing his hands, but Aldrich said there was evidence to indicate otherwise. 'It took a second party to take this child's hands, plunge them into this liquid and hold them there. He was virtually burned down to the bone,' Aldrich said. The boy, also suffering from apparent malnutrition, was taken to Children's Hospital, where he was reported in good condition. Police fed the boy the pizza he requested because he was unable to hold it in his bandaged hands. Ventura's five other children, aged 9 months to 7 years, were taken away from the Mission Hill housing development apartment Saturday night and placed in the care of the Department of Social Services, which had been alerted to the situation by an anonymous phone call. The woman, who is four months pregnant, was arraigned in Roxbury District Court. (0) Leave a comment upi.com/4534206 Sponsored How to Improve Saggy Jawline (Do This) City Beauty
