Jim, Check out the CBOE home page for lots of goodies.In short, the vix= the volatility index based on calculations of the otpions'premiums.It peaks at market lows and bottoms at market tops.Check out a longer term chart and see what it did in Oct and then in late Dec.As long as it is trending lower,the market goes higher.That might help you from jumping in or out at the wrong time...Of course nothing is fullproof!;)And don't forget using other indicators to help confirm.
