Some infrastructure starting to appear:

According to the Electronic Times of January 26, "Omron Electronics will unveil its prototype identification unit at this year's Smartcard 98 show in London. The Personal Authentication Unit - 2000 combines fingerprint biometrics in a smart card reader." This small item also noted that the unit took .3 seconds to read the smartcard, and had less than a 1% false rejection rate and less than a .1% false acceptance rate.

Here's what I picked up from the Omron web site:

"OMRON Corporation

Founded 1933 in Kyoto, Japan
Omron Corporation 1996 revenues of $5.6 billion
23,000 employees worldwide
55 international subsidiaries
More than 40 factories worldwide, all with ISO 9000 certification

OMRON Electronics, Inc.

Subsidiary of OMRON Corporation
700 employees
34 branched and regional offices, training facilities, application laboratories
North and South American headquarters for industrial automation systems
and services"

Steve,

Be careful who you are calling an unknowing buffoon because you just might be talking about me!! <LOL!> I just couldn't help myself and bought some more IDX at 9 1/8 this morning. It wasn't 10,000 shares but, nevertheless, it was a tidy sum.

Best of luck to you.

Rick
