Old basic... New basic... Fully diluted... Very confusing.

Did SQNT beat their number or not?

Briefing.com is stating that they missed by $.02. If everyone had been calculating fully diluted, then yes. But if analysts were making their calculations using "new basic," then no---they beat by $.01.

$.42 (new basic) or $.45 (new diluted)?

Here's an example:

Microsemi Corporation, another holding of mine, was predicted to come in at $.31. The number they gave, $.28, or new diluted, apparently missed by $.03, or 10%. BUT---the analyst covering the company had made these figures in "old basic." Had the analyst reported in "new basic," his number would have corresponded to $.33---and Microsemi reported $.35 "new basic." So, the company actually BEAT their number by $.02.

I just spoke to John Eldridge at Sequent IR to find out if he knew what model the analysts were following to calculate their predicted earnings. He said he didn't know.

Let's see what they say tomorrow.

Best regards,

PD
