The lying you refer to is a consequence of how society functions. To place someone in a position of power, society makes demands of them. Once in a position of power, what they do depends on their character, proclivities and what society continues to demand. Some will not lie, some will lie a little and some will lie a lot. Internally, if they have a conscience, they will justify the lies (e.g., common good) using the tools society has given them. Articles, complaints, commentary .... these do not help. They entertain, they distract, they fuel further articles, complaints, commentary. A man has two hands and two legs, 8 fingers, 2 thumbs and 10 toes. So a man can reach out in four different directions to complain and point blame, and he can further refine it to 20 further directions. And I am not even counting on him being aroused while doing the blaming. :) One cannot provide a genuine solution to a problem unless there is decency, and a pure intent (no self-interest) --- meaning that the solution works to the common good, and the decency is what takes you through that tortuous path to the solution. Everybody learns in the process, through discomfort. Everybody learns that everybody else is somebody too. I do not know what Gandhi meant when he said "be the change that you want to see in the world!". People have taken it to be an instrument of activism, to go out and demand change, to be counted. I know the meaning, but it is only because I have spent a lot of time learning about and thinking about such things. That does not make me any kind expert, which is why I find it hard to talk about. But, in essence, all social change starts with the individual. One's thinking has to go inward, instead of outward (blame). There, if you spend time (challenging for most in this world), you will see the whole story. How and what you think informs your action --- you see it clearly. Your action informs society. Now that you can see how Covid has spread, you can see how the germ of your thought and action spreads. Yes, eventually, everything is a contagion. And you are the center of what you see, as long as you allow it. Speed is not the issue. The Universe has plenty of time for play.
