Thanks. My composting takes over for soil building starting next year.

To get started I used a mix in the proportions of 4 bags "garden soil", 2 bags topsoil, 1 bag manure, 1/2 block coconut coir, 1/4 bag worm castings, 1 pint diatomaceous earth.
The gardens cannot be raised beds here. Too arid. So I sunk mine 4" below the surface. That required removing the existing, exhausted, packed hard as cement dirt down to 2 feet. Then replacing 1' 8" with the mix.
The removed soil was mixed with remaining mixture. Some of that went to build the melon/squash mound which was piled onto a bed of barely begun to compost yard detritus.
I have some left over after giving some to a neighbor, waiting for next year's expansion effort.
