Hi Trufflette, Sure glad you haven't left us (you're the star of the thread.) and we have to have a reunion in Vegas when IOM reaches 40 or (20) post split. ??? what year will that be. I've been through a similar situation with a couple of tech stocks I've owned in the past and low and behold they have recovered. i.e. Micron Technology (with Kurlak's buy one week sell the next etc. (as Gary mentioned) I was lucky to exit with a small profit. Now that IOM got the s**t beat out of it (yes I do use the vernacular) some analyst will recommend them as a buy. In the meantime we're all here waiting for the inevitable recovery. SR
P.S. Could anyone post IOM's Email address. I'd like to send them my opinion of what transpired recently.

OK, you asked for it.

A well publicized stock buyback plan right now, using at least 1/2 of the $100MM allocated for ads, could be used.to inject some sort of confidence in the stock. Iomega management is probably weighing this option right now, but is looking for the bottom to buy their own shares "cheep."

If the stock goes up significantly by the summer, Iomega could sell off some shares to pay for more ads, and still have lots of extra shares left over for options and employee incentives.

I expect to hear something like this from Iomega within the next 2 weeks.

RE: The "Good 'Ole Days"

Truff,

Don't be too hard on Brendan. I'm the one who started the discussion on what's [not] "fair". <G>

Yes, it's great to see Bob Skinner back loading up the truck with these "cheep" shares. It's also encouraging (as someone else pointed out) to see that his spelling is as bad as ever. Always a good indicator!

If you really miss Joel, we could go back and random repost some of his messages. Kind of a "Best of Joel" theme.... <G>

The shipping of one or more of the delayed products.

<Anyone think that the company will use the Emerald conference to make some sort of statement to the investment community?>

Hasn't happened before. But, that doesn't mean there's not a first time.

<Has IOM ever announced or instituted stock buybacks?>

Yes, in 1996 they announced a stock buy back program. Definitely think this would be a brilliant thing to announce soon.

I too, agree that the selling is fizzling out. The price ending unchanged shows the interest at this level. Not to mention the 500,000 share bid at 8....

Linda

We need to get past the preliminary injunction hearing on Friday up in S.F. Don't assume that the injunction will be made permanent. The good news is that Nomai has conceded that its disks do not work in all configurations of Zip (i.e. laptops) and therefore they can not and will not be allowed to claim that the disks are 100% compatible even if the injunction is lifted in some way. If the injunction is lifted (pending trial on the patents, of course), the key may well be the wording Nomai is allowed to use. Will they be allowed to say: "For use in the following Zip drives" (and then give a list of drives)? Or will they not be allowed to use the word "Zip" (which implies some sort of Iomega approval) and have to use words like: "For 100 MB drives" in a more generic sense. Who knows. I do know that IOM continues to argue that the Nomai disks (even the newer ones) can damage Zip drives and that Nomai shouldn't be allowed to sell these disks- period.

<<Anyone think that the company will use the Emerald conference to make some sort of statement to the investment community?>>

No.

Bill Polk

Trufflette -

Past Emerald conferences have not produced any new information or any market reaction for IOM. I wouldn't expect anything from it.

Yes, in the summer of '96 (2Q conference call, if I'm not mistaken) a stock buyback was authorized by the board. I believe it was for 300,000 shares to be purchased "from time to time" as the management desired. At the time, since the stock price was below the highs of that May and the secondary issue price of 35, many people accused Iomega of shorting their own stock.

Some shares have been actually bought back since then, but not the full amount. In other words, the company could still buy back more shares from the original amount.

I really doubt that would help the stock price any, though.

That being said, I would like to hear anyone's opinion on what will act as a catalyst to cause the stock to move up again.

Here are some possible events that, IMO, would cause IOM stock to increase:

1. Apple announces that Zip is standard with every Mac.

2. Clik! OEM announcement.

3. Major PC OEM announcing Zip as A: drive.

4. Sony announcing delay in HiFD drive.

5. Sony announces pricing of new HiFD drive which is more than the price of OEM Zip + floppy.
