RE: External IDE Devices?

I suppose you could hack something together pretty cheap, too. Just find an extender for the IDE cable and power cable and a box for the device. I have an "internal" CD-ROM and "internal" Zip that just sit on my desk. I just haven't taken the time to find mounting brackets to put them inside the case.

Why wouldn't you just want an internal device? Switching between machines? If that's the case, you might consider the Zip Plus. It has a dual parallel/SCSI interface. If you're using it on a machine with a SCSI port, you get the speed. If you're using it on a machine without a SCSI port, you can use the parallel port.

[ Sorry for recommending a non-SyQuest product here, but I would--and have--done the same thing on the Iomega thread. I only recommend the product that I think is best for the job. ]

Joseph,

They are talking about Syjet which has SCSI. There "are" few external EIDE solutions (not EIDE-to-Parallel). You need an propriety inteface card for the external connection. I try one of them and is not working very well.

I hope we will see some more enhancement to the ATAPI interface. SCSI HDD is too expensive and not worth the extra money for my personal use. 7200rpm EIDE will be available in a few months!!!
