I tried to go to the UAWG site, BUT now you need a password to get on??? Does anyone know what's up with that? During the last two days, it hasn't been a problem to get on!

Maybe this is Why? ADSL Forum Reaches Out To UAWG; Alcatel's Shelnutt Put Forth as Liaison

January 28, 1998 -- The ADSL Forum Board of Directors is wasting no time
helping move G.lite forward. The Forum has submitted a recommendation
for a formal liaison between itself and the newly formed Universal ADSL
Working Group (UAWG) in an effort to avoid splintering in the standards
industry.

The ADSL Forum has officially acknowledged and supports the work of the
Universal ADSL Group. In a letter from Hans-Erhard Reiter, Chairman of
the Board & President ADSL Forum, the Forum requested a Liaison between
the Universal ADSL Working Group and the ADSL Forum.

"As you know, the ADSL Forum's mission is to promote ADSL and to provide
standards contributions to allow for end-to-end services that use ADSL
transport. Accordingly, the ADSL Forum's interests are complimentary
with those of the Universal ADSL Working Group. In fact, the companies
involved in the Universal ADSL Working Group are also ADSL Forum
members. We believe that it is vital that our two groups form a liaison
to rapidly facilitate the evolution of an implementable end-to-end
solution<" Reiter said.

The Forum has suggested that John Shelnutt, of Alcatel, act as the
Forum's Liaison Officer. "John is a member of the board of directors of
the ADSL Forum as well as being deeply involved in the Universal ADSL
Working Group. As our liaison John can accelerate the collaborative work
between our groups. We respectfully urge the Universal ADSL Working
Group to act quickly in getting this important liaison in place."

Approval from the UAWG is expected.
