COMPAQ, TANDY'S RADIOSHACK PLAN RETAIL SALES AGREEMENT Futures World News - January 28, 1998 09:06 STOCK V%FWN P%FWN Houston-Jan. 28-FWN/UPI--COMPAQ COMPUTER CORP. IS joining hands with fellow Texas corporate compatriot Tandy Corp. in a multi-year retail sales and service arrangement. Under a letter of intent, Compaq Presario PCs, made by the computer giant, will become the exclusive computer line sold through Tandy's RadioShack electronics store division. Tandy is based in Fort Worth. Compaq and RadioShack will jointly market and promote specially configured Compaq Presario computers and accessories beginning in March. RadioShack will become an official service provider for its entire line of Compaq computers. The announcement says consumers in virtually every U.S. neighborhood will have local access to the PC in America's most trusted electronics store. Compaq says RadioShack will allow it to broaden its distribution reach into local markets through America's most trusted consumer electronics chain with some 7,000 locations. As part of the agreement, Compaq and RadioShack will invest in the development of a store-within-a-store concept. It will feature an interactive experience that will invite the consumer to touch and learn more about Compaq products and technology. The agreement will allow Compaq to provide consumers with a convenient one-stop shopping destination for Compaq Presario products. RadioShack's nationwide network of 53 service centers will provide in-warranty and out-of-warranty repair service on all home and business Compaq PCs.
