There is a difference in how the two parties are evolving.

Apples and oranges because they are fundamentally different.

The Republican party is actually devolving as it is based on nothing more than a mixture of the rich using it to gain power and money, and seducing the Republican rank and file into doing their bidding by appealing to their worst instincts e.g. racism and hatred of liberals.

The Democratic party is based on and a reflection of the evolution of science and logic. The split in the party between moderates and progressives is simply on social ideology.

The moderates want a sort of status quo and tend to pander to Wall street and the progressives want the party to bring the autocrats to heel and run it according to modern social science which includes raising taxes on the rich to pay for more social programs that help the people, poor, vulnerable and society.

This far left as you keep referring to is not a major part of the party. It is a small fraction with little power.

The left, as opposed to far left, is the future of the Democratic party as it is what is most logical and progressives are usually pretty logical.
