Ed,
I believe that in Japan, IDX is selling their products with Fujitsu.

Ed,

I believe that in Japan, NEC sells the LS-21...... Identix can't sell the LS-21 in Japan....but they make it for NEC. Identix can sell the Identix version to NEC afis users in the rest of the world.

So all sales in Japan will go through NEC....while the rest of the world is fair game.

Identix is very happy to work this way. Japan is best handled by the Japanese. They even speak a different language and have Kumatus and stuff. Fujitsu really only sells the TouchLock II for time and attendance applications....so there is really no conflict at all. Fujitsu is world wide and a great reseller.

NEC is involved with the 10 printer for law enforcement and the TouchView for Bio-ID.......Welfare identification and that sort of thing.

The world partnering of Lockheed and NEC is very, very important. I believe Lockheed would be very wise to buy IDX, Lock stock and barrel......and I think they will.....They won't wait too long. Lockheed Martin is posturing to move ahead into this market.......They have many powerful friends on the hill, also....which never hurts.

Could Randy let go?

I'm looking for some research into the size of the marketplace for AFIS systems and the penetration into the market so far. The main markets in my eyes for this equipment is law enforcement, welfare control and immigration control. Searching the web I have seen numerous announcements of awards for state and county systems being installed over the past two years but no clear picture of whether this market from the law enforcement side is reaching saturation.

I believe the future for IDX will move heavily into other non law enforcement areas but for now this is the area that is bringing in the profits and competition is much more limited (only 4 companies with FBI certification) than in other commercial markets. Any ideas where I can look for this market research?
