The stock fell because investors are a forward-looking lot. A year ago all the potential good news was in front of us...now, all the good news is behind us. Today, all we have is a mediocre cautionary report from management...no solid good news to look forward to. Things won't turn intil we get that cautionary warning re SE Asia out of the way.....Speaking of which..
Today's NY Times reports that a consortium of int'l creditirs have approved a plan for South Korea to reschedule payment on 24 Billion in loans. The plan extends repayment terms for up to 3 years, this gives the country breathing room. And this plan is in addition to the IMF rescue package. (The private paln also addresses the concerns of some pols that the private sector wasn't doing enough)
We do have some bad news though...The European consortium failed to approve the Ericsson-Nokia proposed W-CDMA standard. The vote was 62% in favor, but they needed 72% to win. Don't know when the next round of voting will be and whether they can change the vote of some other member.
So, we have some good news and some bad news today, only the market will tell us which affects the stock price more.
