If we have open primaries, then right wingers can move over to vote for someone to defeat a progressives whenever it suits them and they are the tricksters. If right wingers want to vote in the Democratic party then let them join it. Look at what the Republicans have given us over the last 60 years! One criminal and fool after another: Nixon, the Bushes, Reagan and now Trump. Or compare the Democrats in congress to the quality of the Republicans. Night and day. And the south constantly votes in idiots and criminals. It seems you have this idea that the entire nation would do better. But history does not bear that out. Look how the south held onto slavery and then segregation until liberals forced them to end slavery and then to integrate. Show me where in our history your idea has worked. And it is a matter of ideology for the Democrats because they embrace science and logic. Democrats know whey they are democrats. It is because they believe in its ideology of progressive government. But not for the Republican because to them it is competition. They hate liberal ideology. In fact they have NO viable social ideology. Their ideas are not taught at the university, but the Democratic ideas are. Big difference.
