I had two Blue Heelers.. far too much energy LOL and a tad feral.. Loved them.. 80 lb dog in a 40 pound body.. hitched them in tandem to a sled and pulled my son through the woods/trails in Rouge Valley in Toronto in winter..

I think next dog if I can find a rescue will be a standard or larger poodle.. They are smart and good in the water.. easier to socialize.. had one of those (standard) also as a kid.. poor thing would always hide for few days after mom sent her to get clipped LOL I think she was embarrassed.. she was no froo froo dog.. Also apparently poodles are decent truffle hunters and I have 10 Hazelnut trees infused with truffles :)

I googled the Belgian Malinois sounds a bit like the Heelers (Aussie cattle dog) in temperament.. early socialization and knowing who is alpha is very important.. but fiercely loyal and protective.. poor squirrels would run 5 ft up a tree and think they were safe LOL

funniest thing was watching them try to herd deer in the Rouge.. They were bounding in tall grass like pepe LePew.. and then of course mandatory tick inspection :(

All these breeds are pretty smart
