Everyone was racist, more or less, until about 70-80 years ago and then people started becoming enlightened and Harry Truman integrated the army and Democrats started talking on the civil rights issue. So it made sense for the African Americans to join with the democrats. You have to ask the question, why every liberal, and most "Northern Democrats vote for the civil rights act and most of the no votes came from conservative Republicans and Southern Dixiecrats?
