Paul, Article... Japan, US, Europe and Korea to Meet to Draw Map for Course in Semiconductors...

January 28, 1998

Comline Electronics Wire via Individual Inc. -- Representatives of the semiconductor industries in Japan, the US, Europe and Korea will meet in Kyoto on March 9 and 10 under the auspices of ASET to discuss the course of semiconductor technology in the 2000-2010 period. This will be the first international meeting with the goal of setting out a road map for the semiconductor industry and is expected to figure high in the plans of the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) of the US. The forum will be jointly sponsored by America's Semantech and Europe's IMEC, and will also receive further support from the Korean Semiconductor Industry Association (KSIA) and other associations around the world. The road map set by the SIA has been widely used around the world in the past, but as the research necessary for further advances in semiconductors becomes increasingly expensive, nations and regions are beginning to specialize, and cooperation with the industry is of greater importance.
