A smart guy in charge of the health of the country would be trying to find the most contagious, least harmful, strain and use it to infect the population of his country. The whole country would have near instant resistance against the more harmful strains and could move back to normalcy. No waiting on a vaccine and no feeding the pharma beast.

But at the higher levels decisions are not being made with the goal to save lives. Instead decisions are being made based on either fear, money, or power.

My in-laws are in Penang of <<Malaysia>>, stuck even as they normally spend up to half of each year in that domain for the climate agrees with them given they were born and raised in Indonesia.

Now all folks entering Malaysia must be quarantined in government facilities, and so they do not leave to visit HK unless absolutely necessary. They are holding out thinking the state of is shall only be for a short while. I am unsure.
