Roland Jams With Iomega to Include the Zip Drive in New Digital Music Studio; Musicians to Create and Share Musical Masterpieces On High-Capacity, Removable Zip Disks ROY, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 29, 1998--Extending the benefits of the Zip drive beyond the PC, Iomega Corporation (NYSE:IOM) today announced that they have joined forces with Roland Corporation to "rock" the music industry with a new digital studio that includes the award-winning Zip drive. The new VS-840 Digital Studio Workstation from Roland with Zip Built-In(TM) brings a whole new dimension to music recording, enabling customers to record up to 103 minutes of VS audio directly onto each 100MB, removable Zip disk. Designed with the musician in mind, the VS-840 breaks price and performance barriers by offering customers a complete 64-track personal digital audio recording studio for a manufacturer's suggested retail price under $1,400. With the Zip drive as a standard feature, the VS-840 will enable customers to easily record music directly onto high-capacity Zip disks that can be catalogued and referenced for future recordings or used to collaborate with friends. The VS-840 Digital Studio Workstation with Zip Built-In is expected to be available worldwide at the end of January 1998. "The convenience of recording directly to a Zip is a true breakthrough in digital music recording," said Tom Stephenson, digital product manager for Roland Corporation. "By including the Zip drive in the new VS-840, our customers have an inexpensive and convenient way to store their songs. Just pop in a Zip, work on a song, take it out and put in another. It's that convenient." With over 12 million drives shipped since their introduction in March of 1995, Iomega's Zip drive is the new standard in high-capacity removable storage drives. Already offered as a standard or optional feature by leading desktop and notebook computer makers, the Zip drive is now being offered by original equipment manufacturers in other markets. The first two non-PC markets to begin adopting the Zip drive are the presentation and digital music markets with the Zip drive included in the LiteShow Pro data/video projector from In Focus Systems and the VS-840 Digital Studio Workstation from Roland Corporation. "By including the Zip drive in their new digital recording studio, Roland is continuing to lead the market by offering today's musicians an easy and reliable way to record all of their music tracks," said Mike Lynch, director, Zip non-PC applications at Iomega Corporation. "Customers who have previously been inconvenienced by the limited storage of the 1.44MB floppy will now be able to use the VS-840 digital studio workstation with Zip Built-In for unlimited recording capabilities as they build their personal music collection."
