OB, 100% agreement with your perspective. I might add that the DEC people,in general, that I have encountered are dedicated and well trained in their functions. I wouldn't be surprized if they all would wear company blazers if given the chance.

OB,
Re -- contribute to its success but it all comes back to people.

That's true. However you forget that managing people is much much harder than technology. Also people have cultures and various other habits which take time to "fit" in with other people.

Thus even though CPQ gets a lot of people, its unclear if a lot of them are the right people. And even if they are the right people, integration is going to take a long time....

Yup "channelling" it is.!!!

Obewon - Agreed, people (properly managed!) are where it's at. I hate to belabor the point, but I spent 18 years fixing bugs for customers of IBM's largest mainframes. IBM was NEVER the lowest cost producer, but the big boys always bought because they knew IBM would keeps guys like me up 24 hours/day until the problem was fixed. We would fly people to Europe or anywhere in the US on a couple hours notice. Makes all the difference to large customers.....
