Mark,

I like Adaptec because it's somewhat of a monopoly in its markets. It likes to own patents and buy competition. I forgot to mention another reason I like Adaptec at these levels, a 10M share buyback they announced with the last earnings <g>. I've done OK with PTEC, but much better trading Adaptec. PTEC suffers from too much competition and doesn't seem to be taking you up on your recommendation to buy some of its competitors (perhaps Intel would think it a waste of PTEC's money if they were going to buy them & wipe out the competition anyway<g>?) I wouldn't like a Seagate for the same reason - not a monopoly, too much competition killing margins. Vertigo keeps me away from Cisco in this market, I'd rather invest in value, and trade the Mo stocks.

Regarding DEC, that was my biggest holding last year. Made good profit, but missed out on the 2nd run to the buyout because their own forecasts for the next few Q's looked bogus. Buyout had to have leaked out to not have stock tank after the last earning's press releases. Obvious if you look at the charts. Oh well!

Go PTEC!

regards,
Tom
