I'm generally not trying to be hard to get along with.

I don't think you are being difficult. What I think is that you're simply not analytical about these discussions and these topics so we have no basis for engaging.

To vet some offering, you have to first read it carefully and with an open mind until you understand it well enough to see where the author wants to go and then identify any logical flaws and unconvincing explanations. The objective is not to contradict the author's point or dismiss it or offer some extraneous perspective but to point out where the offering doesn't hold up so the author can either strengthen the argument or be disabused of it. Vetting is a collaborative process, not a tug of war or a shouting match. That's what I used to do with your posts, trying to show you where your arguments didn't hold up so that you might rethink them, but you interpreted my comments as attacks and either attacked back or blew me off.

Today, for example, there was Sam's response to my "fine people" argument, an argument that was unnatural to him. But he stuck with it until he understood my argument, fed his understanding of my argument back to me so I would know that he got it, and then went on to offer constructive observations.

Sam: OK, I think I understand now. Your position is that... And I would reply that...

You and I are just not on the same wavelength wrt our exchanges.
