They were burned in the past by switching...spent a lot of money on it only to end up right back up in the same boat when the prices of the sister metals flipped positions. So they are dragging their feet on switching, but I agree some switching is inevitable. The temptation is too high not to.

If the consumers were smart/coordinated, they would get together and make an agreement to try and split the consumption between the two factoring in production. But probably that wouldn't work either as ETF/investor demand is constantly skewing the whole thing...

There is the migration to cars that don't need those, however. I believe the 50% point will be reached within 10 years. It's why Tesla is worth hundreds of billions of dollars now *cough* *cough* -g-

But seriously, the inflection point is coming, it's just a few years away yet.
