Burton Malkiel's new book, "Global Bargain Hunting", although hopelessly outdated having been published four months ago, mentions that Asian real-estate could be interesting.

I agree. "They're not making any more of it" and as wealth increases so does land value, I think. Personally, I like real estate a whole bunch.

With currencies down so much, are there any good values in Asian real estate stocks - issues similar to the American REIT's? Although rents would also be down commensurate with currencies, if not more so, real estate values tend to be "sticky". How about some cheap Balinese acreage?

Any ideas?

Malkiel mentions several companies that own real estate:
Amoy Properties (HK)
Bunder Raya Development (Malaysia)
Cheung Kong (HK)
Hang Lung (HK)
Henderson Land (HK)
Hopewell Holdings (HK)
Malayan Credit (Singapore)
New World (HK)
Singapore Land (Singapore)
Sun Hung Kai (HK)

Some of these seem to have holdings all over SE Asia.

All thoughts are welcome.
