I retired and didn't want to pay the high tax rate anymore. To do so, would have drained my capital unnecessarily.
That's funny, because the liberals in New York will claim that you built up your capital thanks to the liberal policies of New York state.

This will mean something if they pass a California-style "wealth tax," which will apply retroactively to anyone who's ever lived in the state over the past ten years.

(The retroactive part of the tax is needed to prevent the wealthy from leaving the state in order to avoid the new tax. It's not likely to be constitutional, but the intentions of liberals in government is clear.)
