But $299 !!!

That is diposable.

Re: "Cyrix loses a helluva lot of money": at that price I guess so.

But if they can pull it off there could be some interesting Xmas presents this year.

<<Elitegroup says it can deliver a $299 Windows PC by the end of this year. "It might be sooner, but this is a safe
prediction," says Ann Vo, a public-relations specialist at the company's Fremont office. >>

Paul,
I think this year the investors are going to wake up and evaluate companies by their earnings, not their spins. Too many hight tech. companies that are losing money and tried to spin-off as winners, reality would have to sink in sooner or later. Just a gut feeling, 98 would be a year that earnings count.

Paul,
RE: "Cyrix is losing money and besides Compaq, nobody with a
reputable brand name is using their product. Even IBM has
dropped Cyrix - and IBM does the Fab work for Cyrix! Some
endorsement!"

I don't believe this is correct since IBM markets 6x86MXs under the IBM name and IBM does use some Cyrix chips in some PCs albiet it seems they lost out to the virtuslly free K6 for the time being.

Then again, Radio Shack has dropped the IBM Aptiva line in favor of Compaq. So saying "besides Compaq" sounds good but Compaq is not too shabby of a line to carry your product. Besides, Cyrix is gong off on a tangent now...let's see what happens when they re-emerge.
