I agree with you, GZ. However, the reason I like the article is that they are pointing out the glaring fact that we are NOT having a fact based conversation. Instead, the police are being forced to change based on political whims. And that has lead to calls for defunding! So this article correctly points out that we need to gather statistics and talk about what works and what doesn't using data science. And that requires MORE funding, not less. This is a rational thought. Defunding and calling police systemically racist is total bullshit, as you rightly point out.
