the stories are heartbreaking mannie, as are the photographs. I hadn't realized how many of the people I follow on s.i. live on the west coast are are so adversely affected by these hellish fires. I hope relief comes soon. sjma.ca the academy more or less follows the successful el sistema program in Venezuela. Sarah first learned about st. james music academy, and the school learned about Sarah, when she worked in the neighbourhood at Oppenheimer park in the downtown east side. that was about seven years ago. even though they did not live in the enrolment area, the school accepted Elena and Sarah helped out by cleaning up after classes and doing odd jobs. just last week her appointment as executive director was formally announced. :) :).
