9/25/2020 Contest update
(Contest and Index YTDs are calculated from 1/3/2020 close.)
Taking a cue from President Trump who wants to “get rid of the ballots” in the upcoming election, if we get rid of Monday, Wednesday & Thursday, biotechs would have had a good week. We’ll see what happens with the ballots in about 5 weeks. As for getting rid of biotech loser days, you may want to write a letter to the SEC.
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 9.07% YTD (vs. up 17.51% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 12.99% YTD (vs. up 15.15% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 18.77% YTD (vs. up 24.41% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 20.98% YTD (vs. up 19.65% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader JBOG’s portfolio, did not escape the week’s biotech selling and closed Friday with a 210.18% YTD gain. FILO’s portfolio, up 161.18% YTD, held on to second place and MASTER’s portfolio, up 88.87% YTD, continued in third place.
At Friday's close, 28 of the 42 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 16 beating the NBI and 13 now beating the SPSIBI.
The 197 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 22.05% with the median still in the red with a YTD loss of -5.24%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: MRNS 1-4 reverse split.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe and relaxing first autumn weekend biotechies. And for those celebrating Yom Kippur, have a good fast day!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
