If created in a lab USA probably played a part I dont think it was meant to be a strong bioweapon. CCP may have wanted to help the Democratic party but more likely accidental release

As Henry explained, many flus like H5N1, sars etc don't propagate effectively. But if they infect a person with a highly transmissible human flu, the DNA/RNA can combine to form a fatal AND highly transmission disease. Kungflu kills about 5% or only 1% for more robust younger demographics. Humanized H5N1 would kill nearly 70%. That's a problem lurking of epic biblical scale. This cute little wuflu is just a teeny training course of negligible relative consequence. I never believed the wet market bat theory. My assumption is USA and China viral experts tinkering around with a view to figuring out vaccines and studying how combinations might occur. From a military point of view it might also be convenient to have genocidal options more precise than atomic bombs which are geographical rather than genocidal.
