Gateway Slashes Prices On Its Destination Line Of Big-Screen PCs

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. -(Dow Jones)- Gateway 2000 Inc. Thursday announced sharp price cuts in its Destination big-screen PC product line.

The computer maker said its D6-233 Pentium II processor-based system was cut to $2,999 from $3,999. Other Destination products include D5-233 Pentium processor-based system including DVD , for $2,499, and the D6-300 Pentium II system, for $3,999. An upgrade to a 36-inch multimode data grade monitor is available on all systems for $600.

The Destination is one of the first products that is part of a convergence between computers and consumer electronics.

Gateway said it Destination product sales were 75% higher in the second half of 1997 than in the first half, with 37% of total 1997 sales coming in the fourth quarter.

The company also said is making DVD , a video and audio display feature, standard on all Destination products.
