Tenchu's Thoughts, Part 1 - The Notorious R.B.G.

This edition of Tenchu's Thoughts will be in two parts. The first one will be about Ruth Bader Gingberg herself. The second will be about the Supreme Court seat she left behind.

"When will there be enough women on the Supreme Court? When there are nine."

Hardcore conservatives might chafe at that line, but I personally think it's brilliant. She's right, after all. Why can't there be nine women on the Supreme Court? After all, there were nine men, weren't there?

We see that even today, when the oh-so-evil Donald Trump, the male who was so chauvinistic that he once bragged about "grabbing pussy," is only looking at women to replace Ginsberg on the Supreme Court.

You can thank The Notorious RBG for forever shifting the center of gravity in America toward more equal representation of women in government.

A role-model, not a savior

Now I often disagreed with her judicial activism. I have never believed in legislation from the bench. If Congress can't do their jobs, we should NOT rely on a small group of lifetime appointees to do it for them.

Yet I have always admired her perseverance and her commitment to what she believed in, especially equal rights. She has become an icon for liberalism, and an example of what the left should aspire to be.

And although she spent the vast majority of her career in the judicial minority, she wrote dissenting opinions that will last through time. They may not matter in the actual case that was being decided upon, but they play an important role in the shaping of ideas and the judiciary for generations to come.

THAT is why she should be regarded as a role-model and an icon.

So why is being treated like a left-wing savior? A superhero, even?

It's because the left doesn't know how to defend their own beliefs. It's because the left thinks being "offended" is a valid counterargument to anything they are arguing against.

"You don't believe in universal health care? As a (insert oppressed person-group here), I'm OFFENDED!"

That's why the left is going nuckin' futs over her loss.

Conviction Over Politics

Now we know that Ruth Bader Gingberg was a force. She was the type of lady who would work until her dying breath. Physically she was incredibly frail and soft-spoken in her final years on Earth. But that didn't stop her from continuing to serve as a Supreme Court justice and as the most senior member of the liberal minority.

All because she wanted to. All because she had courage of conviction. All because she felt the need to keep persisting and keep fighting on for what she believed in.

THAT'S why she did not retire when she was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2009.

THAT'S why, when the Democratic leadership in the Senate became lame ducks in 2014, she didn't take the opportunity to step aside and let someone else take her place.

Please don't tell me that no one saw the spectre of Death waiting patiently at her doorstep. She was living on borrowed time. No one who is born a human gets to choose their time of death.

Oh noes! A 6-3 majority is the end of the world!

Now, can any liberal tell me what's going to happen when conservatives get a 6-3 majority in the court that they couldn't do with a 5-4 majority?

Abortion will be made illegal? Please, there are still millions of unborn children getting killed every year.

Corporations will rule America? Gee, given how corporations these days donate generously to liberal causes like BLM and LGBBQ groups, don't you think that would be a good thing?

Gun violence will become endemic? Yeah, if only we could get rid of that pesky 2nd amendment the right way, like a constitutional amendment, instead of relying upon judicial activists to "interpret" the Constitution in arbitrary ways.

Let's face it, every time a conservative is nominated, the left acts like the sky is falling:

Yet here we are, two years after Kavanaugh got confirmed, and American society hasn't collapsed.

I think America will survive the loss of Ruth Bader Ginsberg. In fact, to pretend otherwise is a real dishonor to her legacy, because what she represents is a movement that should outlast any temporary imbalances in politics.

So please, liberals, get over it. I guarantee you'll have your turn, perhaps sooner than you think. You can thank the legacy of RBG for that.

And once you tilt the Supreme Court back toward the left, you can have the Constitution interpreted like the "living, breathing document" that you've always wanted it to be.

And you won't even have to pack the courts to get there.
