As most of you know, including Prissy, I've been consistently negative on the way Akins and Co have handled Investor Relations and to Cap this, I called Cymer at 1:30 to clarify the conference call and I've got to tell you that although they did clarify that it would be available at 4:00pm, the coldness of their manner just personifies the problem. Anyway moving along, I'm not unhappy with the #'s, and frankly if Akins had used better judgement with the street, Cymers stock would probably have bottomed in the low 20's.
What I like here is Cymers going forward statements are no different to all the other eqp mfg's releases this last few weeks (Brks, Utek, Pria, Sfam etc, etc). I bought Amat, Klac and Nvls at the close today.
The gamble here is, how long the Asia problem will last? I'm betting that it will be another Mexico of 2 yrs back and if I'm wrong, I'll pay the price.
There's no question that the Semi's are going .25 micron, its just that, how many of them are going to get the financing to pull it off?
Cymers stock buyback should help stabilize @15, the shorts will leave, the only regret I have, is buying May calls instead of the stock, because we might have to wait until 99 to get the double.
The other possibility here that really hasn't been discussed here, is Cymer, now looks like a wonderful takeover candidate. I'd bet that Morgan (Amat Ceo) would love to get his hands on this baby and then the PR problems would vanish.
Unless Asia gets worse, $20 by the end of the year should be do-able.
Good luck to all

I think their guidance gives them a lot of room to move. They want to buy back shares, and like everybody else, they don't want to pay a lot. So, they scare everybody, and use Asia as an excuse to guide analyst down 10 to 15 cents for the quarter. This keeps the stock weak, which allows them time to buy all their stock. Three months from now they easily beat estimates, citing favorable buisness conditions. They get rich. If you buy over the next three months, you will too.

A company receives an order for shipment in Q2 timeframe but it is not a firm order. The shipping company says it can schedule the shipment then. The ordering company must inform the shipping company by a certain date or the order will become firm. The ordering company informs the shipping company that it wants delivery in Q3 timeframe - so it has pushed out its order from Q2 to Q3. All of this has no effect on income statement except that the revenue will be recognized in Q3 when the product ships as opposed to Q2.
